Rabbi Rick Rheins
Please permit this Reform Rabbi to share an enthusiastic endorsement of Livnot. I was on the sixth Livnot program in Tzvat the summer of 1982. I found that the ideals of vibrant and egalitarian Jewish experience combined with a passion for Tikkun Olam were and are the foundations of Livnot. At our program, young men and women studied and lived together on campus. We worked side by side rebuilding Tzvat, helping out at the local hospital, and we learned that the Jewish spirit only truly blossomed when we reached out to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
After my Livnot experience, I became much more involved in my home Reform synagogue (the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation). Within a few years, I entered HUC and was ordained in 1989. For the past 18 years, I have served as a Rabbi in three outstanding Reform congregations. Six years at Beth El in Chappaqua, NY, ten years at Temple David in Monroeville, PA, and now as the Senior Rabbi of Temple Sinai, a 1,100 family Reform congregation in Denver, CO. I’m proud of my years of service. I’m proud to be a Reform Jew. And I am very proud to be a graduate of Livnot U’Lehibanot. In so many ways, my journey began with them. I hope that you will rethink your hesitancy to help fund Livnot’s programs. They do outstanding work and make a difference in the lives of all the Jews.
Please do not hesitate to call me. Thank you for your consideration.
