Doron Cohen Tzfat JewelryWalking through the artist’s street in the old city of Tzfat, one can’t help but notice the beautiful filigree art made by the jeweler, Doron Cohen.  From his humble manner, you would not know that this is the same artist who created the Star of David pendant that Madonna wore frequently during her controversial Kabbalah exploration.

Born in Ramat-Gan, Israel, Doron had the good fortune of growing up with two parents who were highly skilled jewelers in silverwork. However, it was not until the age of 23, when he received a special vision one evening that he began to take any real interest in his parent’s craft. In his vision, someone told him that he would make jewelry that would be filled with light, and he would know everything he had to in order to complete the tasks at hand. Upon waking, he asked to use his parent’s tools and began to create piece after piece.  Instantly, a feeling of love and light came over him, which caused him to ask the inevitable question, “If not here, where I have been for so long?”

Doron Cohen Tzfat HamsaAfter spending time living in both Jerusalem and on a kibbutz, Doron finally moved his wife and ten children to the mystical city of Tzfat. Unaware that it was a major artistic hub and tourist attraction, it took several years for Doron to feature his art in the central strip of galleries on Yosef Caro Street. Little did he know that his original jewelry which strongly reflects themes of friendship, love, & other aspects of Judaism would touch the lives of people all across the world. Countless times, Doron has been contacted by past customers who reported witnessing a strong spiritual shift in their lives after wearing his jewelry.  So infused with spirituality and intention, many believe that wearing his art has helped them draw more good into their lives.

Nestled between the cobblestone walls of his gallery, Doron sits with his signature black cap, smiling sweetly to himself, ready to answer any questions those visiting his shop might have.  As an artist, Doron believes in working hard and opening yourself.  He does not look to outside sources to receive inspiration so much as he looks into his own self as a way to give. You can find him most days diligently working in his studio, designing intricate patterns on pendants and rings that will soon be scooped up by those wishing to adorn their body with jewelry that is truly unique. Do yourself a favor and linger a while longer in Doron Cohen’s gallery and see what unfolds.
