My Livnot Experience: Sabrina Muldoon

volunteeringI was in Israel on a program that was not really fulfilling what I was looking for out of my time there. I was so saddened by this that I had changed my flight to go home after two weeks! Then out of nowhere a girl walked over to me and asked how I like the program. I had a few choice words to say to which her reply was “I HAVE THE PERFECT PLACE FOR YOU!” She had me intrigued and I needed to know more. “Livnot in Tzfat”, she said. “It has everything you’re looking for! Community, spirituality, hiking, learning and one of the most amazing views you have ever seen!” At this point, I was completely sold! I did very little research seeing as that she pretty much already had me on the bus! I spoke to the Rabbi at the school I was in and he said he thinks I would very much enjoy it. Before I knew it, that day, I was on the bus headed North! water As soon as I stepped off of the bus I felt this overwhelming tingly feeling. I knew I was right where I should be! I walked in to the welcoming hallway of Livnot and instantly fell in love! I met with the amazing madrichot (Leora, Tifferet, and Naama) who were well above their years intellectually and spiritually. The group of about 10-15 people then sat in a circle and introduced ourselves and what we were looking for out of this experience. I had no idea that would be one of the best weeks of my life! bandanaWe went on a few amazing hikes! One in particular lead us up to a huge and breathtaking waterfall! We all went swimming in our clothing and had a blast! We had a night hike which lead us to a spiritual awakening at one the oldest shuls in Israel. At least what was left of it! And then all went our separate ways to have time to speak to G-d on our own. If you listened carefully you could hear men screaming out to Hashem their prayers in the distance.  I had one of the most amazing Shabbats I’ve ever had! We made challah and all cooked together– On that note it was SO MUCH FUN living in a community where everyone cooked and cleaned together. It really brought a lot of unity to the group and I can honestly say I formed some friendships that till this day are still strong! We sang, we danced, we laughed and shared many stories. We also gave back to the community by either visiting a elderly nursing home, planting or painting the town. I am happy to say a part of me will always be on the Tzfat light-posts by the big staircase!  Livnot changed my life for the best and is what kept me in Israel for another 2.5 months! cleaningNot to mention the amazing view! I could sit on the balcony all day and night and stare at the scenery. Mountains upon mountains and sunsets you would not believe. It was such a serene and euphoric place. If I could have every single one of my friends, family or anyone I’ve ever encountered do Livnot and experience what it was like to live in the heart of Tzfat and the art center, I know they would forever be grateful for the suggestion! If anyone is coming off of a Birthright trip OR just happen to be in Israel for any reason, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend doing this program as it will surely change your life as it has mine! Thank you Livnot for all you do and for all you give back to the community and for building memories that I will no doubt share with generations to come! -Sabrina Muldoon, NE76
