My Livnot Experience: Stepan Houtchens, Onward Israel Internship

Stepan Livnot Onward IsraelBy: Dave Young, Onward Israel/Livnot U’Lehibanot Intern July 6, 2015 Stepan Houtchens had the opportunity to intern at the Emet Hatechelet (Blue Valley) Nature Reserve as part of the Onward Israel program at Livnot. Today, I got to interview Stepan about his experience at the reserve, and how he is preparing for his future in Israel. “I work at the nature reserve here in Tzfat. I like going to work outdoors every day, and that by itself is amazing. I get to interact with genuinely caring people. We work with animals and I like that a lot. One of my favorite aspects of work is riding around on the ATV to get things done. It adds a little bit of fun to the day.” Tzfat Livnot View “My boss, Shlomi makes his own wine and gives it away for free to families that can’t afford to buy their own for Shabbat dinner. Shlomi’s a wonderful person and a great connection I’ve made in Israel. He’s a true friend and has taught me a lot. I’ve definitely taken a lot more away from this interview than just job experience.” Stepan Livnot Onward Israel“After my internship, I’m doing a program with Budokan. I will learn martial arts techniques that will aid me in my future endeavors. I’ve given a lot of thought to joining the military and I look forward to finding myself in Israel. The skills I’ve attained through my internship and the skills I’m going to keep learning are really going to make a difference in my future.” We can’t wait to hear from Stepan in the future and see where his journey will take him.
