Scholarships: New York

Israel Program Scholarships | New York

With just a bit of extra cash, wouldn’t you take your dream trip to Israel? In 35 years of providing Israel experience programs, Livnot has always valued the importance of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity being as affordable as possible. Because we receive so many scholarship inquiries each season, we’re starting a new section on this blog to provide more information on scholarship resources. Please note: Livnot U’Lehibanot is a non-profit organization and our program tuition is heavily subsidized, but we cannot directly purchase airfare for participants or offer internal scholarships beyond the already reduced tuition fees.

Singing around the fireLet’s get started in New York. Our dear friends at the UJA-Federation of New York offer Israel program scholarships for participants up to the age of 30. Scholarships are available to permanent residents of New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, or Westchester county. Individual scholarship applications are not accepted by the Federation, rather your program provider (Livnot) has to apply on your behalf. The week-long Northern Exposure program is too short to qualify for the scholarship, but participants on our Galilee Fellowship and Onward Israel: Ultimate Internship programs are eligible.

The four-week Galilee Fellowship and six-week Onward Israel programs embody Livnot’s classic fusion of hiking, volunteering, and spiritual exploration. Based in the Old City of Tzfat, throughout the program, participants have the opportunity to experience a different side of Israel by living in an Israeli community; building it up and becoming part of it.

So how do you get started with the scholarship process? Fill out the Galilee Fellowship application or Onward Israel application and we’ll arrange your personal phone interview to swap questions. Once you are accepted to the program, we will fill out the additional forms on your behalf that are required for the scholarship committee of the UJA-Federation of New York.

The next UJA-Federation scholarship deadline is:

  • Friday, November 14, 2014 – Winter 2014 program applicants (need-based applicants only)
  • Thursday, April 2, 2015 – Summer 2015 program applicants (need-based and merit applicants)

So be sure to submit your Livnot application early to ensure complete processing of your registration before the cut-off date.
